Aamilah Aswat has made a remarkable mark in history by becoming the first female black British jump jockey to claim victory in a horse race in the UK. This groundbreaking achievement took place when the 20-year-old jockey secured her inaugural win aboard the 9-1 favorite, Guchen, during a handicap hurdle at Kempton Park.
Her journey to this milestone began in November when she became the first black British woman to ride as a jump jockey in Britain. Reflecting on her historic win, Aswat expressed that it felt "amazing" to triumph in only her fourth race, showcasing her talent while riding Guchen for trainers Kim Bailey and Mat Nicholls.
Aswat shared her excitement, stating, "He gave me a great feeling all the way round and always felt like he had plenty left." Aswat's journey into the world of jump racing began with her completion of the inaugural Riding A Dream Academy scholarship program in 2021-22. Following her training, she participated in the Magnolia Cup on the flat at Goodwood earlier this year after honing her skills at the British Racing School, ultimately earning her jockey license last autumn.
