Benedetta Boscaro: Italian Swimming Star Joins Virginia Tech Class of 2031 (2026)

Here’s a story that’s bound to make waves in the swimming world: Italy’s rising star, World Juniors swimmer Benedetta Boscaro, has officially committed to Virginia Tech for 2027, marking a major milestone in her already impressive career. But here’s where it gets even more exciting—this young talent is set to bring her international prowess to the Hokies, and fans can’t wait to see what she’ll achieve next.

Fitter and Faster Swim Camps (https://fitterandfaster.com/), the proud sponsor of SwimSwam’s College Recruiting Channel, knows just how monumental this moment is. For countless swimmers, competing at the collegiate level is more than a dream—it’s a lifelong pursuit fueled by relentless dedication. Fitter and Faster celebrates not only these athletes but also the coaches, families, and teammates who’ve championed them along the way.

Benedetta Boscaro (https://swimswam.com/tag/benedetta-boscaro/) recently announced her verbal commitment to Virginia Tech, where she’ll begin her collegiate journey in the fall of 2027. In her own words, ‘I’m beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to Virginia Tech. I want to thank Coach Sergio and Coach Mason for the opportunity, my family, my friends, and my team for all the support throughout this process. I can’t wait to dive into this amazing adventure, go Hokies!’

Representing both Team Veneto and Italy on the international stage, Boscaro has already made a splash. Last summer, she competed at the European Junior Championships, securing a 5th-place finish in the 100 backstroke with a personal best of 1:01.42. But that’s not all—she also anchored Italy’s gold medal-winning 4×100 medley relay, leading off with a split of 1:01.98. And this is the part most people miss: her performance wasn’t just about speed; it showcased her ability to rise under pressure.

Later that summer, Boscaro took her talents to the World Junior Championships in Romania, placing 19th in the 100 back (1:02.16) and 22nd in the 200 back (2:17.15). Her long course meter (LCM) bests, with short course yard (SCY) conversions, are equally impressive:

  • 100 back: 1:01.42 (54.25 SCY)
  • 200 back: 2:15.74 (2:00.12 SCY)

Virginia Tech’s women’s swim team, which finished 9th at the 2025 ACC Championships, is no stranger to international talent. Led by Carmen Weiler Sastre (https://swimswam.com/tag/carmen-weiler-sastre/), who scored 69 individual points and made the ‘A’ final in both backstroke events, the Hokies have a strong foundation. Interestingly, Boscaro won’t overlap with Weiler Sastre, as the latter is currently a senior. But here’s where it gets controversial: Can Boscaro fill the void left by Weiler Sastre, or will she carve out an entirely new legacy?

Arriving in fall 2027 as part of the class of 2031, Boscaro joins a talented group that includes Jillian Wiersema (https://swimswam.com/tag/jillian-wiersema/), Claire Roussakis (https://swimswam.com/tag/claire-roussakis/), and Margot Levesque (https://swimswam.com/tag/margot-levesque/). Together, they’re poised to make waves in the ACC and beyond.
