Despite a downward trend in mortality, Beyrer expressed skepticism about controlling the epidemic by 2030 due to unmet goals and political challenges. He highlighted the impact of funding cuts to the US President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) and the United States Agency for International Development, particularly in Africa. HIVconsvX Vaccine: A Step Forward:
Nilu Goonetilleke, PhD, presented her research on the HIVconsvX vaccine, a modified vaccinia Ankara-vectored vaccine using Mosaic-1 and Mosaic-2 immunogens. The study showed the vaccine's safety and efficacy in patients on ART, targeting six HIV regions and eliciting an immune response. Interestingly, Goonetilleke noted a linear relationship between age and immune response, warranting further investigation. Future research could explore different vaccines to target various aspects of the immune system.
