Match Updates:

1. Charlton 0-0 Southampton (Postpublished at 12:32 GMT)

It's a reunion 14 years in the making as Charlton and Southampton lock horns in league action! The last time they met in 2011 was a League One encounter, where Southampton emerged victorious with a 2-0 win. Since then, both clubs have experienced the highs and lows of football's pyramid.

Southampton enjoyed a period of Premier League prominence, even gracing the European stage. Charlton, meanwhile, have been oscillating between the Championship and League One.

While Southampton finds themselves back in the Championship this season after Premier League relegation, Charlton has adapted quicker, currently sitting ninth, a whopping nine places above the Saints.

5. Two Changes for Coventry; Four for Albion (Coventry v West Brom, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:23 GMT)

Coventry will be without Haji Wright due to a thigh injury sustained on international duty with the USA. Brandon Thomas-Asante, fresh from his first international start for Ghana, starts on the bench after returning from Japan and South Korea. Josh Eccles and Ellis Simms step into the starting lineup. Jack Rudoni is also back among the substitutes after a two-month injury layoff.

Ryan Mason makes four changes to his West Brom side that defeated Oxford a fortnight ago. George Campbell, Chris Mepham, Jayson Molumby, and Aune Heggebo enter the fray. Callum Styles, Alfie Gilchrist, Ousmane Diakite, and Josh Maja are named as substitutes.

6. Coventry Streets Ahead in the Real and Virtual Worlds (Coventry v West Brom, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:20 GMT)

At the start of October, these two teams were neck and neck, separated by a mere two points. Fast forward just seven games, and a chasm of 13 points has opened up, with Coventry leaving West Brom in their wake.

Opta, the data gurus, have crunched the numbers and predict an 84.2% chance of automatic promotion for Coventry! Middlesbrough follows, but way behind, at 30.8%. This shows just how dominant the Sky Blues have been.

Eight of the past nine teams with as many points as Coventry at this stage of the season have gone up automatically (with Watford being the exception, finishing 6th in 2008).

So, should we just call it now? Probably not! West Brom's early-season form has dipped, but they're still within striking distance of the top six. The Baggies' chances of automatic promotion stand at a slim 2.1%, with a 15.5% shot at a play-off place.

What does all this mean? Perhaps it's just a pre-Christmas bonus for the statisticians, giving us something to debate! Let's focus on the real action on the pitch. The computer may be right, or it may be wrong, but let's enjoy the ride!

7. Jones Switches it Up as Saints Make Only One Change (Charlton v Southampton, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:17 GMT)

Charlton boss Nathan Jones has made several changes following their defeat at Wrexham before the international break. Onel Hernandez, Rob Apter, Miles Leaburn, and Greg Docherty all come into the starting XI.

Charlton Lineup: Kaminski, Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey, Apter, Coventry, Carey, Docherty, Hernandez, Leaburn, Campbell.

Substitutes: Anderson, Berry, Fullah, Gough, Knibbs, Laqeretabua, Mannion, Olaofe, Rankin-Costello.

Southampton has made just one change, with Cameron Bragg replacing Flynn Downes, who drops to the bench.

Southampton Lineup: Bazunu, Stephens, Wood-Gordon, Harwood-Bellis, Manning, Jander, Bragg, Fellows, Scienza, Armstrong, Azaz.

Substitutes: Aribo, Downes, Downs, Edwards, Fraser, McCarthy, Quarshie, Robinson, Welington.

8. Jones Leads Charlton Against Former Side Saints (Charlton v Southampton, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:15 GMT)

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones insists that facing his old club Southampton doesn't provide any extra motivation. Jones managed the Saints for just three months before being sacked.

Jones is focused on his current club and the energy the Charlton fans bring to the game, with the Addicks currently enjoying a more fruitful season than the visitors.

"We are really looking forward to the game," Jones told BBC Radio London, "Not because it's Southampton, not because it's an ex-Premier League side, but because it's the next league game where we play at The Valley with an excellent crowd. There is an ambience in there that is conducive to win games and that's what we have at The Valley."

Meanwhile, interim boss Tonda Eckert remains in the dugout for Southampton after overseeing back-to-back wins before the international break.

9. Prospective New Swans Boss Matos Expected at Bristol City (Bristol City v Swansea, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:13 GMT)

Dafydd Pritchard reports from Ashton Gate: Swansea City are on the verge of appointing Vitor Matos as their new head coach. His current club, Maritimo, has confirmed his departure.

Former Liverpool elite development coach Matos emerged as Swansea's top target after they missed out on Kim Hellberg, who is poised to take over at Middlesbrough.

Matos, 37, has only been a head coach since taking over at Portuguese second-tier club Maritimo in June.

Having failed to appoint Hellberg, Swansea have decided Matos is the best candidate to succeed Alan Sheehan, who was sacked last week.

Maritimo stated on Instagram: "Coach Vitor Matos will leave CS Marítimo to take charge of Swansea City, after the club activated a €1 million (£881,900) release clause on Friday."

Swansea has yet to confirm the news, but Matos is expected to be at Ashton Gate today for the match against Bristol City.

10. Knight and Pring on Bench for Robins; Six Changes for Swans (Bristol City v Swansea, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:11 GMT)

Cameron Pring and skipper Jason Knight are named on the bench for Bristol City. Knight has missed eight games with an abductor injury, while Pring is yet to make his first appearance this season after picking up an ankle problem in pre-season. Mark Sykes is also a potential substitute after missing the game at Watford.

The Robins make a double change to the XI, with Neto Borges and Emil Riis replacing Haydon Roberts and Fally Mayulu.

Cameron Burgess will wear the captain's armband for Swansea as Ben Cabango misses out. Josh Tymon is also absent, while Goncalo Franco, Melker Widell, Zeidane Inoussa, and Zan Vipotnik all move to the bench.

Eom Ji-Sung, Ronald, Liam Cullen, Kaelan Casey, and Adam Idah come into the starting lineup. Marko Stamenic is straight into the starting XI after a three-game absence.

11. Can O'Dea Keep Struggling Swans From Going Further Adrift? (Bristol City v Swansea, 12:30 GMT) (Published at 12:09 GMT)

Swansea's search for a new boss has been anything but smooth sailing. After sacking Alan Sheehan following a 4-1 defeat to Ipswich Town, they appear to have lost out on Kim Hellberg to Middlesbrough, and conversations with Maritimo's Vitor Matos stalled.

Undeterred, the Swans appear to have secured Matos, but fans will have to wait to see what his era will bring.

For now, assistant boss Darren O'Dea will take charge for the first time this season, aiming for a positive result against a Bristol City side that is finally seeing some relief from their injury woes.

Today marks O'Dea's first time in charge at senior level. Will his introduction to management flow smoothly, or will the Swans struggle?

12. Early Games (Published at 12:06 GMT)

Championship (12:30 GMT):

  • Bristol City v Swansea City
  • Charlton Athletic v Southampton
  • Coventry City v West Brom

13. Five Things (Published at 12:04 GMT)

With the final international break before Christmas done and dusted, we have a full EFL schedule across the weekend. Here are five stories to watch.

14. How it Stands (Published at 12:02 GMT)

Preston missed the chance to move up to second place last night with their 2-1 home defeat by Blackburn. North End could find themselves out of the top six by this evening.

A win for Coventry against West Brom this lunchtime would put them a whopping eight points clear at the top ahead of the later games.

Norwich City and Sheffield United could swap places in the bottom three, but the Canaries would remain in the relegation zone even with a win at Birmingham in Philippe Clement's first game in charge. And this is the part most people miss: even a single point can be crucial in the long run.

15. Saturdays are Back! (Published at 12:00 GMT)

Saturday's Championship action returns! We've missed it, and the second tier is back with a bang.

Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones reunites with his former club Southampton, while the West Midlands heats up as West Bromwich Albion visit league leaders Coventry City.

Later, many eyes will be on Philippe Clement as he makes his debut as the new Norwich City boss. Can he impress with a win at Birmingham?

We have all the build-up starting... NOW!
