Get ready, racing fans, because the WorldSBK landscape is about to get a whole lot more interesting! Jake Dixon, fresh from his Moto2 adventures, is gearing up for a thrilling switch to WorldSBK with Honda in 2026. And he's not alone; he'll be benefiting from the expertise of a true legend: Jonathan Rea.
Rea, a six-time WorldSBK champion, is stepping into a development role for the Honda Fireblade after an incredible career. Think of it as the ultimate pit-lane power move! He's bringing a wealth of knowledge to the table, having previously spent six seasons with Honda before his record-breaking run with Kawasaki from 2015 to 2020. His recent experience with Yamaha, though yielding only one podium finish, has only added to his expertise.
Rea himself is excited, stating his aim is to support the CBR1000RR-R and the Honda HRC factory team with all the experience he's gained.
Dixon, a former British Superbike runner-up with seven Moto2 victories under his belt, is clearly thrilled. He's already in close contact with Rea and deeply respects his vast experience.
"I can't wait to hear what his comments are," Dixon shared. "Also, because he has come from Kawasaki, then to Yamaha, now to Honda... I'm intrigued to hear what he says about the bike." Dixon is hopeful that Rea's insights will help guide Honda in a positive direction, particularly as they look towards the 2027 season.
But here's where it gets controversial... Honda's current performance in WorldSBK hasn't exactly set the world on fire. They finished eleventh and twelfth in this year's standings. Rea himself won 15 races for Honda in the past, but the Japanese manufacturer hasn't tasted victory since 2016.
Dixon's Honda debut is just around the corner, with testing scheduled at Jerez later this week.
And this is the part most people miss... The addition of Rea, with his unique perspective from multiple top teams, could be a game-changer for Honda.
What do you think? Will Rea's experience propel Honda to the top? Share your thoughts in the comments!
