In a thrilling showdown, Kyle Kuzma shone brightly, scoring an impressive 31 points to help the Milwaukee Bucks end their five-game losing streak with a decisive 131-115 victory against the Chicago Bulls. This game, held on Tuesday night, featured two teams grappling with significant roster challenges, making the outcome even more compelling.
The Bucks took to the court without their top two scorers, who were sidelined due to injuries, while the Bulls faced a dramatic shift in personnel after trading away three players earlier that same day. In a notable three-team trade, Chicago sent Kevin Huerter and Dario Saric to Detroit, acquiring veteran point guard Mike Conley Jr. from Minnesota, along with rising star Jaden Ivey from the Pistons. Additionally, the Bulls exchanged Nikola Vucevic and a second-round draft pick with the Boston Celtics in return for Anfernee Simons and another second-round selection.
The absence of Josh Giddey, Chicago's leading scorer, who missed the game due to a strained left hamstring, further complicated the Bulls' efforts.
On the other side, Milwaukee continued to feel the impact of two-time MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has been out since January 23 due to a right calf strain. Although he was seen shooting and working out before the game, his presence was sorely missed. The Bucks’ record without him now stands at a challenging 4-15.
Further complicating the Bucks’ lineup were injuries to Kevin Porter Jr. (oblique strain), Bobby Portis (hip bruise), and Gary Harris (left hamstring strain). Coach Doc Rivers mentioned before the game that Porter might make a return as early as Wednesday or Friday.
In addition to Kuzma’s standout performance, Ryan Rollins contributed significantly with 21 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds. Kuzma also recorded 10 rebounds and six assists, showcasing his all-around game. The Bucks excelled from beyond the arc, setting a season-high by sinking 23 three-pointers and achieving a remarkable shooting percentage of 60.5% from long range.
For the Bulls, Matas Buzelis stood out with 22 points, while Coby White added 21 points along with 10 rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Milwaukee's offensive firepower. After struggling in their previous outing where they scored their lowest points of the season in a loss to Boston, the Bucks turned things around dramatically, nearly matching that total by halftime with a commanding 77-52 lead. This marked the highest first-half scoring output for Milwaukee this season.
Although the Bulls attempted to close the gap late in the third quarter, narrowing Milwaukee's lead to 90-84, they ultimately couldn’t pull any closer.
Looking ahead, the Bulls will travel to Toronto for their next matchup on Thursday, while the Bucks will host the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday.
This game not only highlights the resilience of the Bucks in the face of adversity but also raises questions about the long-term implications of these trades and injuries.
