Get ready, MotoGP fans! Maverick Vinales is shaking things up for the 2026 season, and this move could be a game-changer. He's teaming up with none other than former MotoGP champion, Jorge Lorenzo!
This partnership comes as Vinales enters his second season with the Tech3 KTM team. The team itself is undergoing a transformation, with Guenther Steiner's consortium taking the reins next year. Vinales has been vocal about areas where the KTM RC16 could improve, especially since it hasn't seen a win since 2022. He's also focused on elevating his own performance, and bringing Lorenzo into the fold is a key part of that strategy.
"Bringing Jorge [Lorenzo] into this journey is a huge opportunity to learn and improve in every aspect," Vinales stated. "His experience and outside perspective will help us take confident steps forward. I’m starting this new stage with great motivation and excitement."
For Lorenzo, this marks a return to the competitive side of MotoGP after a brief stint as Yamaha's test rider following his retirement in 2019. He's also been involved in MotoGP broadcasting with DAZN, but this is his first time working directly with a rider.
Announced via social media, Lorenzo's role will encompass physical preparation, strategic mental coaching, and "technical-sport development, reinforcing race-weekend analysis and planning."
"Maverick [Vinales] has always had natural talent and great speed," Lorenzo said. "My role is to accompany him, share my experience and knowledge, and help him reach his best version. I strongly believe that if we improve in each of the key areas, success will be inevitable."
