Get ready for a shell-shocking update, folks! The beloved Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are about to embark on a new adventure, and it's got everyone talking. The iconic TMNT franchise is getting a live-action reboot, and the producer behind it all is none other than Neal H. Moritz, the mastermind of The Fast and the Furious series.
Moritz, along with his partner Toby Ascher, is in talks with Paramount Pictures to bring the turtles back to the big screen in a whole new way. But here's where it gets interesting: Paramount fully owns the TMNT brand, unlike some other franchises, and they're determined to unlock its full potential.
The last live-action attempt, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, didn't quite make the cut, leaving the film franchise in limbo. However, the studio found success with animation, releasing the critically acclaimed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem in 2023.
New Paramount has been making some bold moves with TMNT, including shutting down a spin-off series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in the middle of production. The reason? The studio wants to align the franchise with its vision. Showrunner Christopher Yost confirmed the cancellation, stating that while the upcoming episodes would be the last, they were the best yet.
Another live-action/CG project, The Last Ronin, has also been put on hold. Sources reveal that the new regime wasn't keen on an R-rated, adult-oriented story for the first non-animated TMNT movie in a decade.
But here's the twist: multiple sources indicate that Paramount aims to "Sonic-fy" the TMNT franchise. Sonic the Hedgehog, another live-action/hybrid franchise based on the Sega video game, has been a massive hit for Paramount, raking in over a billion dollars. And guess who produced it? You got it, Neal H. Moritz.
"If you want Sonic, you go to the guy who did Sonic," an insider revealed.
So, what do you think, folks? Are you excited for a live-action TMNT reboot? Or do you prefer the animated adventures? Let's discuss in the comments and share your thoughts on this turtle-y awesome news!
