Diving Deeper: Key Moves and Their Implications
Let's zoom in on a few of these moves to understand the bigger picture.
Perrion Winfrey's Return: Remember Perrion Winfrey? He was a fifth-round pick for the Browns back in 2022 after winning the Senior Bowl MVP. He had a rookie season with 22 tackles and a half-sack in 13 games. But his time in Cleveland was short-lived. He was waived after an off-field incident. He then played a single game with the Jets before joining the UFL's Birmingham Stallions. He earned All-UFL honors, leading to the Cowboys signing him in June. A back injury put him on IR in early September, but now he's back. The Cowboys have only 3 activations remaining.
Damone Clark's Departure: Winfrey's return means LB Damone Clark is out. Clark was a fifth-round pick for the Cowboys in 2022 and was a 17-game starter in 2023, racking up 109 tackles. However, his playing time decreased significantly this year, with 138 of his 217 snaps coming on special teams. The Cowboys recently acquired LB Logan Wilson via trade and welcomed back LB DeMarvion Overshown from injury. This made Clark expendable.
