A Bold Move for Nigeria's Security: President Tinubu's Directive
In a recent development, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken a firm stand on the deployment of police officers, emphasizing the need to prioritize national security over VIP protection. This move, which he reiterated before the Federal Executive Council meeting, aims to address pressing security challenges like terrorism and kidnapping.

Tinubu insists on withdrawing police officers from VIP duties and deploying them to conflict zones, stating, "The nation cannot afford to keep essential security manpower away from pressing security theatres." "I honestly believe in what I said. If there are security concerns, the IGP should be contacted, and I will provide clearance for exceptional cases," Tinubu explained. He also instructed the Ministry of Interior to collaborate with the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) to replace the withdrawn police personnel.
The President further instructed the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS) to form a committee to oversee the implementation of the redeployment plan. He emphasized the need to address the rising incidents of kidnapping and terrorism, stating, "We need all available forces to tackle these challenges."
While acknowledging that some individuals may require special security considerations, Tinubu believes that other armed formations should take up these responsibilities. He also directed the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to initiate the process of converting grazing reserves into ranches or livestock settlements, aiming to end the perennial herder-farmer conflicts.
"Converting grazing areas into agricultural and commercial hubs will create jobs and expand economic opportunities, thus eliminating conflict cycles," Tinubu stressed. He reminded state governments of their constitutional authority over land and urged cooperation in this process.
