Ryan Nembhard's NBA Rise: Gonzaga Star Shines as Mavericks Undrafted Rookie (2026)

The Undrafted Star: Ryan Nembhard's NBA Journey

In the world of basketball, where talent often shines through, Ryan Nembhard's story is a testament to unwavering confidence and hard work. This Gonzaga legend has left an indelible mark on the court, and his recent NBA exploits are nothing short of remarkable.

Ryan's journey began at Gonzaga, where he dominated under the guidance of Coach Mark Few. His two seasons in Spokane were a showcase of his phenomenal skills, breaking records and leaving an indelible mark on the program.

"Gonzaga prepared me immensely for this next step. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. I'm forever grateful to be a Zag," Nembhard shared, reflecting on his time at the college.

However, the 2024-25 NBA Draft passed Ryan by, but his talent couldn't be ignored forever. The Dallas Mavericks, recognizing his potential, signed him as an undrafted free agent.

"The Mavericks showed genuine belief in me. With their point guard depth, I felt I had a real chance to make the roster and prove myself," Nembhard explained.

But here's where it gets controversial... Ryan isn't the first Zag to make it to the NBA. He joins the likes of Chet Holmgren, Rui Hachimura, and even his own brother, Andrew, who made an NBA Finals appearance. So, is Ryan's success a product of his own talent or the legacy of Gonzaga?

"Both being in the league is a dream come true. We've shared our love for the game and the unique challenges of the NBA. It's a special bond," Nembhard said about his brother.

As the offseason progressed, Ryan's hard work paid off. In December, he had a breakout performance that left everyone talking.

"I've always believed in myself, and that belief stems from the hours of dedication. I knew if I kept working, this was a possibility," he shared.

And this is the part most people miss... Ryan's performance in Denver was historic. He scored 28 points, dished out 10 assists, and had zero turnovers. An unprecedented feat for an undrafted rookie.

"He's playing with a lot of confidence and making the right plays. His teammates love playing with him," said Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd.

Ryan continues to improve, learning alongside the number one overall pick, Cooper Flagg.

"He's young, but incredibly talented. We've built a great relationship, and I'm excited to see his growth," Nembhard said.

Even with his NBA success, Ryan stays connected to his Gonzaga roots. He keeps in touch with his former teammates, a team that's on track for another successful season.

"I'm super happy for them. They're an exciting team, and I believe they can achieve great things this year," Nembhard added.

Ryan Nembhard's story is a reminder that talent, hard work, and belief can take you places. What do you think? Is Ryan's success a testament to his individual talent or the power of the Gonzaga program? Share your thoughts in the comments!
