Six Flags Magic Mountain Demolishes Historic Rides: Tweety’s Escape & Magic Flyer Say Goodbye (2026)

A California theme park is moving to demolish two long-standing attractions.

Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia has filed demolition permits with Los Angeles County to remove two classic rides. One is a steel swing ride identified only as Attraction Number #2215, believed to be Tweety’s Escape, a Looney Tunes–themed attraction where guests ride in individual birdcages and swing gently around. It opened in 1985.

The second ride, Attraction Number #2208, is described as a steel kids roller coaster and is thought to be the Magic Flyer. Magic Mountain describes it as suited for “young thrill-seekers in training.” The coaster is a gentle train ride, capped at 10 mph, with light rises and drops. The Magic Flyer has been part of the park since 1970, having previously operated under names like Percy’s Railway when the area was themed to Thomas the Tank Engine. Today, that area sits in Whistlestop Park. The ride’s history extends even further back: it originally debuted as the Little Dipper at Beverly Park, a Los Angeles amusement park that opened in 1945 and is now closed.

Beating the drum of history, Beverly Park was a place where Walt Disney reportedly spent time before creating Disneyland. Disney later recalled that he believed in a place where parents and children could enjoy themselves together, after opening his own park in 1955. The Little Dipper ran at Beverly Park from 1947 to 1970, making it a ride that Disney could have seen when planning his vision for Disneyland.

Each of the Magic Mountain rides slated for removal is valued at about $10,000 according to the permits. The park says the demolitions are likely to clear space for upcoming attractions, including a coaster described as “first-of-its-kind,” planned for next year in the footprint of the nearby Golden Bear Theater, as announced by Business Wire.

A Six Flags spokesperson told SFGATE that Six Flags Magic Mountain has been a source of family memories for more than five decades. The company recognizes that saying farewell to beloved rides is difficult, but emphasizes that the changes are part of a broader plan to improve the guest experience for families and promises to share more details soon.

Six Flags, the park’s owner, has been navigating financial pressures recently. Notably, NFL star Travis Kelce and investment firm Jana Partners recently took a 9% stake in the company and proposed ideas for a mega roller coaster. In its third-quarter earnings for 2025, Six Flags reported a $31 million year-over-year loss, driven by reduced spend per guest rather than lower attendance. The company also appointed John Reilly, a former SeaWorld executive, as president and CEO in December.

In other moves, Six Flags has discussed closing underperforming parks, such as Six Flags America in Maryland, which closed in early November. While Knott’s Berry Farm and Magic Mountain are not expected to close, there has been speculation that Santa Clara’s Great America could face closure, potentially around 2027, ahead of a lease expiration in 2028. However, no official decision about Great America’s fate has been announced.
