He believes that once their zero-people-in-tunnel (ZPIT) mining machine is perfected, the conversation will shift from a 20-mile loop in Nashville to a hyperloop spanning hundreds of miles. Davis imagines a network connecting Nashville to Knoxville, Chattanooga, and Memphis, revolutionizing travel in the region.
However, Middle Tennessee State University's Professor Kenneth Currie highlights several challenges. Power requirements, elevation changes, and emergency air supply are just the tip of the iceberg. Currie questions the feasibility of maintaining a vacuum in the tunnel and the safety implications if a pod were to get stuck. He also wonders about the energy needed to reach the proposed top speed of 600 miles per hour, suggesting it might be a stretch.
The Boring Company has not yet approached Knoxville with this idea, and experts believe a hyperloop is a distant possibility, if at all. Despite the skepticism, some experts acknowledge that TBC's engineering prowess could overcome these hurdles. But is it worth the effort?
