The Battle for Mbeere North: A High-Stakes Political Showdown
In a dramatic turn of events, the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has kicked its campaign into high gear for the upcoming Mbeere North parliamentary by-election. With the party's candidate, Leonard Muriuki Muthende, at the forefront, UDA is leaving no stone unturned to secure a victory.
But here's where it gets controversial... Deputy Party Leader and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, leading a powerful delegation, swept through Ngunyumu and Kune, urging residents to unite behind Muthende. Kindiki emphasized the need for continuity, promising that Muthende would build upon the development agenda initiated by former MP Geoffrey Ruku, now a Cabinet Secretary.
"We're not asking for blind support," Kindiki clarified. "We want you to back Muthende because he embodies the progress we've achieved and will continue to advance it. From tarmacked roads to electrified homes, we're talking about real change that benefits our community."
And this is the part most people miss... Kindiki took aim at Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of divisive tactics. He warned against sowing discord, emphasizing the need for peaceful coexistence post-election. "Mbeere North voters are wise; they seek unity and progress, not division."
UDA Chairperson Cecily Mbarire, the Embu Governor, added her voice, urging residents to avoid electing an opposition MP. "It's a counterproductive move. Mbeere North deserves better than political games."
Muthende, in his rallies, pledged equitable bursary distribution and the establishment of an education fund. He also hit back at Gachagua's personal attacks, stating, "Politics of hate have no place here."
CS Geoffrey Ruku supported Muthende, condemning Gachagua's tactics as taboo within the Mbeere community.
Other UDA leaders, including Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi and MPs Eric Muchangi Karemba, among others, rallied behind Muthende. Muthende faces Newton Kariuki (DP Party) and Duncan Mbui (CCK Party) in a tightly contested race.
