Former Florida coach Urban Meyer, a two-time national champion with the Gators, is set to be inducted into the team's ring of honor next season. The announcement was made during a special ceremony at the end of the first quarter of the game against No. 20 Tennessee, coinciding with Meyer's induction into the National Football Foundation Hall of Fame. Meyer will join a select group of legends, including Wilber Marshall, Emmitt Smith, Steve Spurrier, Tim Tebow, Danny Wuerffel, and Jack Youngblood, in the ring of honor at Florida Field. The induction date will be announced soon.
The Gators initially planned to induct Meyer in 2022, when one of his previous teams, Utah, was scheduled to visit the Swamp. However, Meyer's brief NFL career in 2021 took an unexpected turn when he was fired after an incident involving a player. This led to the induction being postponed. Instead, the Gators decided to bestow their highest honor upon Meyer following his successful induction into the NFF Hall of Fame. Meyer's six-year tenure as Florida's head coach (2005-2010) was marked by a remarkable 65-15 record, including a 36-12 mark in Southeastern Conference play, and two national titles in 2006 and 2008.
