Live updates from the Winter Olympics with Team GB seeking more medals as officials hope for weather improvements for outside events.

16:30, Fri, Feb 20, 2026 Updated: 16:30, Fri, Feb 20, 2026

The freeski qualifiers were halted on Thursday evening after a bad fall by Cassie Sharpe

Day 14 of the Milano-Cortina Winter Olympics has arrived and plenty more medals are up for grabs over the coming hours.

The curling continues to be a dramatic event for Team GB with the women's team brutally eliminated before the men's side qualified for the gold medal match. That is due to take place against Canada on Saturday evening.

An unfortunate highlight of yesterday saw Canadian freeskier Cassie Sharpe suffer a bad injury with Finley Melville Ives, who was a gold medal favourite, unfortunately crashing out badly in the men's freeski halfpipe qualifiers.

Ice hockey takes centre stage later today with Canada facing Finland and USA taking on Slovakia. If the American's do reach the final, US president Donald Trump is expected to be in attendance.

There are several other big events on today including the speed skating, bobsleigh and freestyle skiing today. To stay across all of it, keep your eyes on this page for live updates throughout the day...

Paralympics boycott grows

Lithuania has become the latest nation to announce plans to boycott the Winter Paralympics opening ceremony , joining a growing protest over Russia's participation in the competition. Russian athletes will be permitted to compete under their national flag at the event, marking the first time this has been allowed since the country's invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Their suspension was implemented in 2023, separate from the ban imposed ahead of the 2020 Games due to doping violations. Despite the ban, selected Russian and Belarusian athletes, who were also impacted by the suspension, have been granted permission to compete as neutral athletes under the Olympic flag - but now the national flags will return. Lithuania, along with Poland and Ukraine, have made their position clear on the issue .

Catastrophic incident avoided

A catastrophic injury was narrowly avoided at the Winter Olympics when Nordic combined skier Ben Loomis was struck by track equipment whilst accelerating down a 370-foot ski jump ramp.

Loomis competed in the men's Olympic Nordic combined team sprint at the Predazzo Ski Jumping Stadium, where officials deployed leaf blowers to clear snow from the in-run hill to ensure consistent speeds and a safe surface. As the 27-year-old pushed off from the start bar and built up speed, one of the blowers was not removed in time. It struck the Team USA star on the shoulder as he descended almost immediately into his run.

Gus Kenworthy promise

Team GB's Gus Kenworthy has promised that he has 'more in the locker' for tonight's freeski halfpipe finals.

He secured qualification in ninth place earlier today.

Speaking to BBC Sport, he said:

"I feel good, I'm happy to have put one down, I played it safe in my first run but put down a run that I knew I'd be able to land cleanly, not a super technical run but I felt it was enough to get me through today.

"I have more in the locker.

"Second run I tried to practice a little with the two 14s, but I definitely want to put those together along with some other stuff and keep the amplitude up."

The final takes place at 6:30pm tonight.

Lindsey Vonn retirement verdict

Former skiier Chemmy Alcott has hinted that Lindsey Vonn prioritise her health and retire.

The American suffered a broken leg in a bad crash at the Winter Olympics earlier this month, a moment that left Alcott emotional.

She has now provided a clear verdict on Vonn's future in the sport.

She told BBC: "This isn't about a comeback to skiing right now, this is a comeback to health.

"This leg break, it wasn't a leg break. She absolutely shattered that leg. If you've seen photos of her external cage, there are about eight structures there going into the leg. I am so grateful that she's back home.

"Hopefully that will start this long, long healing process. I absolutely feel for her because on the day that she crashed, her beloved dog also passed away. So she's going through it all right now."
